Wayne Update March 2019

In November, we held an event a Detroit Blows.  Members were invited to join us to have their makeup done and a blow out so that they could look their best for professional photos.  Guests were treated to wine, fruit, and cheese while they were pampered.

In December, the Wayne Region hosted our monthly Legal Libations at Town House.  Attendees were invited to bring needed items for the YWCA including sheets, towels, toiletries, and other essentials or make a donation.  This year Wayne Region had elected to support the YWCA.  The goal was to raise $500.00 for YWCA, which we met just after the New Year.

In January, Wayne Region along with Women’s Bar Association, Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, Turnaround Management Association, and International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation hosted a private screening of On the Basis of Sex, a portrayal of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s early years learning and working with the law.  Originally, we had opted for the small theatre thinking that 180 people would be a lot, but we quickly found out that there was far more interest and ended up selling out a theatre for more than 300!  Each attendee received a tote bag with goodies, popcorn, pop, and drink tickets.  It was a blast! We also collected donations for Dress for Success to encourage and support other women as they advance in their careers.

In February we held our Galentine’s Legal Libations at Gold Cash Gold in Corktown, Detroit. We drank cocktails, ate delicious food, and talked about life, our careers, and the future.  Thank you to all of the ladies who came out and shared in our Galentine celebration.

Coming up in March, April, and May you can expect a community outreach event, our Equal Pay Day joint event with Women’s Bar Association on April 9th, and our Annual Meeting.  Details for each event are forthcoming so check out our Facebook page or the Wayne Region page on the State’s website.  We can’t wait to see you!
