Mid-Michigan Update September 2018

In January, the Mid Michigan region kicked off a new series of Women Health events. This first event was in support of a local charitable organization, “Helping Women Period” which provides feminine hygiene products in shelters. Our attendees donated 750 tampons, 362 pads, 654 liners, and over $350.00. At the event, we heard from Honorable Laura Baird of the Ingham County Circuit Court regarding her new Phoenix Court which rehabilitates minor human-trafficking victims. Our region continues to support the Phoenix Court – our book drive to support new hobbies for the teens goes through this month, check out our Amazon wish list to contribute!

In March, we had our second Women’s Health event at Pure Barre where our members joined the Ingham County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section for a work out and refreshments. Donations were made to the Ingham County Bar Foundation.

Our annual dinner took place in June and was a huge success, with empowering speeches from 29th Circuit Court Judge Michelle M. Rick, Michigan Supreme Court Justice Kurtis T. Wilder, and Michigan Supreme Court Justice Bridget Mary McCormack. We approved the 2018-2019 regional board to include a new position.

Finally, our region is competing in the “It’s a Breast Thing” fundraising event where bras are decorated by groups and voted on by cash donations.  Our bra is Women Lawyers Love the Land of Lincoln. “It’s A Breast Thing” helps women cover their out-of-pocket costs while they undergo breast cancer treatment. On October 2, we will attend the fundraising event to cheer our bra on, support the cause, and as always, have fun!
