WLAM Joins ACLU in Request for Leave to File Brief Amici Curiae

Today the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM) joined with the American Civil Liberties Union Fund of Michigan (ACLU) requesting leave to file Brief Amici Curiae in the case Mason, et. al vs Granholm, et al. in the US District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Division

WLAM and the ACLU are asking the Court to review a 2000 Amendment to the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act (ELCRA) which denies prisoners' constitutionally protected rights.  The 2000 Amendment was a direct result of the Michigan Court of Appeals decisions rejecting the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) argument that prisoners were not protected under the "ELCRA".

The brief and exhibits filed in the Court are available on the website for review.
