Member Profile: Nancy J. Diehl

 WLAM is proud to present this years 2006 WLAM Jean King Leadership Award to Nancy J. Diehl. Nancy J. Diehl has worked as a prosecutor for 25 years and currently heads the Felony Trial Division in the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office overseeing general trials, child and family abuse, homicide, auto theft, and major drugs. Nancy started the Child Abuse Unit in 1986 and her work gained state and national attention as a model program of the team approach of prosecutor and advocate vertically handling child abuse cases in the criminal justice system. She is the co-author of four booklets pertaining to children and the legal system: It Is Good to Tell the Truth, Kids Go to Court, Kids and Secrets, and Sometimes It Is Sad to Be at Home, What is a Kid to do About Domestic Violence?

Nancy is the Immediate Past President of the State Bar of Michigan. Her other professional and community affiliations are varied and wide

She has received local and national recognition for her legal work and commitment in the area of child abuse and family violence. Some of them include: 2006 The Guidance Center Circle of Excellence Award; 2005 Wayne State University Law School Treasure of Detroit Award; 2004 Detroit Metropolitan Detroit Bar Association Champion of Justice Award; 2003 Women's Justice Center Outstanding Advocate Award; 2000 Governor's Award, 1998 Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan Distinguished Faculty Award, 1997 Victim Advocacy Award, U. S. Department of Justice, Office For Victims Of Crime, and 1997 National Child Advocacy Award, American Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division.
