January 2006: Teresa Killeen, WLAM President
This year’s President of the WLAM, Washtenaw County Region, is Teresa Killeen – a labor and employment attorney in Ypsilanti and a force to be reckoned with in the Washtenaw County Bar.
Killeen is a solo practitioner who specializes in counseling employees, handling wrongful terminations, and negotiating severance packages. A two-time graduate of the University of Michigan (where she received both her undergraduate and law degrees), Killeen has worked as outside counsel to the Michigan Education Association (MEA) and as Executive Director for the MEA of Wayne County.
She enjoys the autonomy and flexibility of being a solo practitioner and stays active in the Bar through her work with WLAM and the Lawyers and Judges Assistance Program.
Killeen sees her term as President of WLAM as an opportunity to interact with her female colleagues and to get more members involved in planning and carrying out projects and mentoring new members of the Bar.
“Women have a meaningful place in the workforce. It’s important that we know each other and aren’t off in isolated pockets not interacting,” said Killeen, who wants to help women provide a hand to their female colleagues.
Killeen lives in Ann Arbor with her feline “babies,” (Sabrina and Belinda Boots). She enjoys taking advantage of all the places Ann Arbor has to walk, is an avid movie fan and a devoted New York Times crossword puzzler.
