Whether you’re an active or lapsed member of WLAM, we’d like to see more of you! Our goal this year is to build COMMUNITY and promote WELLNESS among women attorneys in Washtenaw County. If you haven't been to a WLAM activity in awhile, please mark your calendars and come to one of the events below!
UPCOMING EVENTS
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 AT 11:30 A.M. WLAM Mom's Group will meet at the Burns Park playground. Come with your kids, babies, grandkids, or no kids. Just bring a blanket and some snacks. It’s a great opportunity to socialize with other WLAM Moms.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 AT 2P.M. “Successful Practice and Happy Family – Whose Balance Is It, Anyway?” State Bar Annual Meeting, Grand Rapids. This presentation is jointly sponsored by the Women Lawyers Ass’n of Michigan and The Equal Access Initiative. Michigan Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Kelly will moderate a panel discussion that includes FMLA updates, negotiating your work life, and time and resource management. WLAM, Washtenaw Region President, Jennifer Salvatore, will be a panelist.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4 AT NOON. Informal Fall Membership Lunch at Everyday Cook (2nd Floor of Kerrytown Shops): Come join us for lunch with WLAM friends and check out at a great new restaurant. There's no formal agenda. Just bring yourself and a friend. We'll talk about plans for the upcoming year. We’re interested in your feedback and ideas. MONDAY, OCTOBER 22 AT Noon. Bias Awareness Week Panel at 200 N. Main St. (lower level conference room): Women Lawyers will sponsor a discussion on Family Status Discrimination, which is workplace discrimination against caregivers. Contact the WCBA for more information.

The WLAM Walking Group has had a loyal following all summer. We're continuing it through the fall until interest wanes with the cold weather. Meet each Friday at noon at Main and Huron in front of the Courthouse.
"SOS" meetings - the first Wednesday of each Month at Argierro's (5:30 PM). Marian Faupel and Teresa Killeen have started an informal mentoring group. Come for mentoring. Come for socializing. Come for lively discussions that include such diverse topics as the 7 Day Rule and Sex.
Nominations for the Mary Foster Award will be taken until November 15, 2007. For more information about this Award and the nomination process, see the attached flyer.

HAPPY HEALTHY LAWYERS 2 – a Conference on Attorney Well-being and How to Improve It is being scheduled for Friday, October 24, 2008 at the University of Michigan Law School. This year’s inaugural conference was such a success that we’re planning another one.
